As a general counsel or chief legal officer, have you ever considered the possibility of becoming the CEO of your organisation? Since March 2019, the U.S. has seen a recurring trend of legal department leaders being promoted to the highest C-Suite positions within their organisations.
The most notable promotion this year was made by C. Allen Parker, general counsel of Wells Fargo & Co., who temporarily took on the role of interim-CEO as the bank faced scrutiny from federal regulators. Carlos Hernandez, chief legal officer of Fluor Corp., is another example. He was also named interim CEO, and later full-time CEO, of the engineering company earlier this year.
