The role of the GC is multi-dimensional and full of opportunities to influence key decisions across an organisation. The GC {Re}Defined report identified that the GC as a business leader comprises six key elements: law, people, business, process, risk and technology. Building upon the themes of the report, GLL and Morrison Foerster partner Dan Coppel interviewed Angela Yotov, the former General Counsel at Ratesetter, on being a culture creator, talent cultivator and becoming integral to the organisation.
Dan Coppel: What do you do or will you need to do to become integral to your CEO and board?
Angela Yotov: It’s about creating value. Demonstrating value-add to both parties as a business partner, not just translating legal advice. Becoming trusted enough that you are a general sounding board is the Holy Grail.
