Expert Witness Profile

Dr. Morrel-Samuels is one of the few expert witnesses in the country whose work occupies the intersection of three areas: the psychometrics of assessment design, statistical analysis of "big data" analytics, and disparate impact, disparate treatment, harassment, or retaliation in the workplace.

As an expert witness, he has analyzed test validity and provided statistical analyses for both plaintiffs and defendants in employment discrimination cases, contract disputes, pension lawsuits, and litigation pertaining to decision making based on surveys, assessments, or employee evaluations.

He has testified to Congress on the linkage between employee motivation and objective performance metrics, served as the EEOC's expert witness in one of their landmark discrimination cases, and has successfully withstood all nine Daubert challenges filed against him in Federal Court.

Dr. Morrel-Samuels often serves as a Lecturer at the University of Michigan where he teaches classes on research methods, statistics, and assessment design. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he is CEO of EMPA (SurveysForBusiness.com), a company that has designed and analyzed assessments for more than 7 million employees in over 70 countries.

He has more than 30 years' experience designing and analyzing assessments for non-profit organizations, government agencies, and numerous fortune 500 companies (e.g., FedEx, GM, Bank of America, Coca-Cola, HP, IBM, and Disney).

His published articles have appeared in the Journal of Experimental Psychology, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and Harvard Business Review, among others. He is the author of four patented employee assessments and has been an expert resource for the New York Times, Detroit News, and the Wall Street Journal.
