A union representing employees of Philadelphia-area newspapers can intervene in a lawsuit over the dissolution of The Philadelphia Inquirer’s parent company, the Delaware Court of Chancery has ruled. The union seeks to intervene in the case so it can request that the company’s assets be sold in a public auction and to participate as a bidder if an auction is ordered.
Vice Chancellor Donald F. Parsons Jr. concluded that the participation of the Newspaper Guild of Greater Philadelphia, Local 38010, was a necessary party to resolve the fate of Interstate General Media Holdings, a Delaware LLC that owns The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News and Philly.com.
