A federal judge rejected ROSS Intelligence’s bid to dismiss claims from Thomson Reuters, who accused the legal research firm of mining the Westlaw database to create a competing platform.

The decision is an early blow to ROSS, which shuttered operations, in part, due to the financial strain of the litigation with Thomson Reuters, according to the company. ROSS has filed counterclaims accusing the media conglomerate of deploying anti-competitive tactics to maintain Westlaw’s dominance in the space.
