Superior Court President Judge James T. Vaughn Jr., Superior Court Judges Jan R. Jurden, Mary Miller Johnston and Calvin L. Scott Jr., Family Court Chief Judge Chandlee Johnson Kuhn and Widener Law professor Lawrence A. Hamermesh are said to be among the candidates who applied to succeed retiring Supreme Court Justice Jack B. Jacobs, according to sources familiar with the process.

As of press time, it was not known if additional candidates had applied for the opening. All applications had to be submitted to Judicial Nominating Commission Chair William B. Chandler III by noon today.

Other names mentioned as possible candidates included Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor partner David C. McBride and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom partner Karen L. Valihura. It is not immediately known if either attorney applied for the vacancy.

One name frequently cited as a potential candidate, former Superior Court Judge Joseph R. Slights III, confirmed that he did not apply to succeed Jacobs.
