Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr released a statement Friday condemning the cover-up of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church and offering to help victims seek justice—even though his office lacks the authority to prosecute such crimes.

“As Attorney General of Georgia and a Roman Catholic myself, I am concerned and angered by continued reports of abuse in the Catholic Church. In addition, I remain deeply troubled by the overall response to this crisis by leadership of the Church,” Carr said Friday in a news release posted on the AG website.
