On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I would like to express condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of U.S. Court of Appeals Senior Judge Phyllis A. Kravitch on her recent passing at the age of 96.

A native of Savannah, Judge Kravitch was a pioneer among women in the legal profession. She entered the private practice of law in 1944 and served as the first woman president of the Savannah Bar Association in 1975. The following year, Judge Kravitch became the first woman elected to a Superior Court judgeship in Georgia history, serving in the Eastern Judicial Circuit (Chatham County).
