The Am Law 200 rankings are out—and five Atlanta-based firms are again among the country’s Second Hundred highest-grossing law firms. They are:
- Sutherland Asbill & Brennan (No. 107 at $305 million in revenues)
- Fisher & Phillips (No. 155 at $176.5 million)
- Morris Manning & Martin (No. 177 at $119.5 million)
- Smith Gambrell & Russell (No. 196 at $97.5 million)
- Arnall Golden Gregory (No. 197 at $94 million)
The American Lawyer reports that the 1.2 percent average revenue growth for Second Hundred firms nationally lagged well behind the 4.3 percent average revenue growth for the Am Law 100 last year. But the story is different for the Atlanta firms in the rankings.
Atlanta’s Am Law 100 firms are King & Spalding; Alston & Bird; Troutman Sanders; Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart; and Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton.
The only Atlanta-based Am Law 200 firm with double-digit revenue growth was the labor and employment firm in the group: Fisher & Phillips reported an 11.7 percent jump in revenue, which bumped up its ranking five spots to No. 155.
The American Lawyer describes a phenomenon it calls the “hollow middle,” where firms at the top and bottom of the 200-firm ranking tend to do better in terms of revenue and profit growth. That trend extends to Atlanta as well, as the Daily Report described in a May 22 special report on firm finances.
