Atlanta-based Grady Health System is one of the largest public academic health care centers in the United States and consists of Grady Memorial Hospital, Hughes Spalding Children’s Hospital, Crestview Health and Rehabilitation Center and several neighborhood health clinics. It is the primary teaching hospital for Emory University and Morehouse Schools of Medicine.

In 2008, Grady Health System underwent a corporate restructuring from a public hospital authority to a private, nonprofit corporation—a governance change that led to more than $350 million in philanthropic gifts for capital improvements at Grady.
