All of us could write a book titled “Things I Wish I Had Known When I was Younger.” No matter how much mentoring and good advice they receive, young attorneys, like anyone else, have to figure out some things for themselves in practice development.

I recently asked two successful young attorneys the most important business development lessons they learned early in their careers. The attorneys were Rob Swartwood, a mergers and acquisitions counsel at James Bates Brannan Groover, and Nathan Johns, a business and estate planning partner at Menden Freiman.
