On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I wish to extend congratulations and thanks to longtime U.S. District Court Judge Harold L. Murphy on the announcement of his retirement from full-time judicial service effective March 31.

During his distinguished career of 68 years in Georgia’s legal profession and justice system, Judge Murphy practiced law in his native Haralson County before he was nominated by President Jimmy Carter, confirmed by the U.S. Senate and served nearly four decades on the federal bench in the Rome division of the Northern District of Georgia. Upon his retirement from full-time status, he will continue to serve as a senior judge.
