Online retailing, telemarketing and ubiquitous “No Soliciting” signs have made the door-to-door salesperson a rare breed. So I was intrigued when two of our Lifetime Achievement honorees credited their courtroom skills to their days trying to keep doors from being slammed in their faces.

All 20 lawyers on this year’s Lifetime Achievement list, as well as our “On the Rise” Luminary, have exhibited that kind of persuasive persistence in their careers. Some had to overcome gender and race discrimination before they could join the others in trying to win over skeptical jurors and judges. Still others needed those skills to achieve consensus with partners in law firms, executives in boardrooms and funders of their critical charity work.
