The attorney for a man awarded $3.3 million for the injuries he suffered in a car wreck said he was surprised by the stiff resistance the defense put up in what he said should have been a routine case.

“The case was fairly straightforward, but the defense disputed everything,” said A. Joel Williams, who maintains his own solo practice and is also of counsel with ShiverHamilton. “They fought us on liability, they fought us on damages. I figured they’d just admit liability and contest causation.”

The defendant driver admitted on the witness stand that Williams’ client, Alahandro Omotola, was not at fault, he said. Even so, said Williams, the defense turned down a high-low offer of between $1.5 million and $2.5 million while the jury was out, countering with a high-low of $800,000 to $1.8 million, which Omotola declined.
