Attorneys for the city of Columbus have reached a $1.6 million agreement with Expedia Inc. and its affiliate, Hotels.com, to conclude a six-year legal battle over hotel occupancy tax reimbursements for online bookings.

The deal includes $600,000 off the top to reimburse litigation expenses incurred by the city’s outside counsel, Pope, McGlamry, Kilpatrick, Morrison and Norwood of Columbus and Atlanta and Bryan Cave of Atlanta. Of the remaining $1 million, nearly $600,000 goes to the city of Columbus. The law firms will share $401,000, according to Columbus City Attorney Clifton Fay.
