Greg Canfield, who joined the firm as managing director of economic development in January, is being recognized for promoting cultural and economic ties between the U.S. and Japan.

Greg Canfield helps Burr & Forman economic development lawyers negotiate site acquisition and government incentives for clients across the Southeast.
But before he joined the Am Law 200 firm in January as managing director of economic development, he spent 12 years recruiting major employers as secretary of commerce for the state of Alabama. He helped gain billions in new investments—many from Japanese automakers and suppliers—and is credited with playing a major role in recruiting what is now the $2.3 billion Mazda-Toyota Manufacturing auto plant near Huntsville.
Japan in recent weeks chose to honor Canfield “for his service contributing to promoting economic exchanges between the United States and Japan” by giving him one of its highest honors, The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays With Rosette.

The suit, accusing the defendant of selling knock-off Graco products, was filed Dec. 18 in New Jersey District Court by Rivkin Radler on behalf of Graco Inc. and Graco Minnesota.
