The U.S. Department of Justice sued the Georgia Institute of Technology in federal court last week, claiming its research department falsified compliance with federal cybersecurity standards after a year-and-a-half-long investigation reportedly revealed “no enforcement” of cybersecurity regulations required by the Department of Defense.
The complaint was filed Aug. 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. The DOJ, based off information provided by two former employees hired by Georgia Tech as assessors to protect sensitive information and possibly weapons research, filed under the False Claims Act (FCA), 31 U.S.C. §§ 3729 – 3733.
