The Georgia Innocence Project (GIP) is anticipating a grant of a habeas corpus motion for a Georgia man believed to be wrongfully convicted of murder after he was allegedly denied a fair trial in 2012.

An evidentiary hearing on the motion filed by Erik Heard will be held next week, Oct. 23 and 24, in the Washington County Superior Court. The amended habeas petition was filed in April by the GIP along with co-counsel at Alston & Bird, arguing that Heard was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences based on unreliable eyewitness identification and an incentivized jailhouse informant.
