The Georgia Supreme Court has upheld the dismissal of two lawsuits filed by a Civil War organization regarding the removal of Confederate monuments in two counties but reinstated a Newton County resident’s similar suit against that county.

In an opinion released Oct. 25, the court affirmed the dismissal of Sons of Confederate Veterans et al. v. Newton County Board of Commissioners and Sons of Confederate Veterans et al. v. Henry County Board of Commissioners. But it reversed a lower court’s ruling on T. Davis Humphries v. Newton County Board of Commissioners, which had been combined with the other two suits when they were appealed to the Georgia Court of Appeals.
