An Atlanta lawyer and former Georgia Supreme Court chief justice is involved with an Army veteran’s federal appeal that could set a precedent for more than one million veterans seeking their full benefits from the U.S. government.

Harold Melton, a partner with Troutman Pepper Hamilton Sanders’ Atlanta office, is one of the firm’s attorneys representing—pro bono—James R. Rudisill, who since 2015 has requested to receive the full amount of education benefits he’s entitled to through the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill, up to an aggregate cap of 48 months when combined with other education benefits.
