Twitter has the upper hand in the lawsuit it is preparing to bring to force Elon Musk to complete his $44 billion buyout, according to legal observers, but they say the company nonetheless might agree to a settlement that reduces the purchase price to avoid a protracted court battle.

Twitter Chairman Bret Taylor promised in a tweet Friday that the company would go to court to force completion of the deal. The move followed a letter Musk’s attorneys sent to Twitter chief legal officer Vijaya Gadde earlier in the day suggesting the company has far more spam accounts than it has let on and has failed to be forthcoming as Musk has tried to investigate the issue.
