In a dispute over whether police officers continued to an interrogate a then-16-year-old murder suspect after he invoked his right to remain silent, the Georgia Supreme Court questioned why prosecutors declined to have the lead interrogator testify on the matter.

The justices held oral arguments in State v. Burton on Tuesday. The case involves an appeal from the state from a trial court’s ruling to suppress statements made by Jeffrey Jerome Burton, who was charged with murder, attempted murder and related offenses in 2017.
