Criminal defense attorneys welcomed the news Tuesday from President Joe Biden of three pardons, including an Athens, Georgia, man, and 75 sentence commutations for people across the country.
Seven of the commutations came in Georgia cases.
“We are finally realizing that locking someone up for 30 years for selling an ounce of weed doesn't make a lot of sense, either from a retributive justice side or a restorative justice side,” said Atlanta lawyer Robin Frazer Clark, a former president of the State Bar of Georgia and the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association.
