A former deputy clerk of the Muscogee County Court in Columbus, Georgia, charged with fraud and other crimes is in talks about possibly entering a guilty plea, according to federal court records.

Willie Demps, of Phenix City, Alabama, was one of eight individuals indicted in August on criminal charges including bank fraud, wire fraud and interstate transportation of stolen property totaling to an alleged loss of almost $500,000 to the county during 11 months in 2019. Demps and six others were indicted on a total of 71 counts of wire fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud and transporting stolen goods and money. The total amount of money missing might have been more than $1 million, according to a Ledger-Enquirer report.
