A group of Republican attorneys general, including Georgia’s, are suing the Biden administration over its policies on school and workplace protections for transgender people, alleging the administration contorted federal law and Supreme Court precedent far beyond its original intention.

The suit filed Monday, which is led by Tennessee and includes 19 other states with Republican attorneys general, takes aim at guidance from the Department of Education warning that the agency can investigate schools for preventing a student from joining a sports team or using a bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity, or if students refuse to use a classmate’s preferred pronouns.
