Florida recently joined the list of jurisdictions moving in the direction of authorizing nonlawyer ownership in law firms, the Daily Business Review reported. The Special Committee to Improve the Delivery of Legal Services urged the creation of a “Law Practice Innovation Laboratory”—commonly referred to as a “sandbox”—and for the passage of an ethics rule countenancing minority ownership stakes in law firms by nonlawyers, albeit with ethics standards still applied to the lawyers involved.
