Private mediations in the Peach State are now protected under the new Georgia Uniform Mediation Act, which took effect July 1.
The act extends party and confidentiality rules to cases privately mediated outside the judicial system.
"A lot of our mediators are having to go out of state because there haven't been laws governing those mediations here," said Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution Executive Director Tracy Johnson.
