Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Harold Melton signed a new one-month statewide judicial emergency order Saturday reinstating deadlines for prosecutors to either indict or release people jailed on criminal charges.

Those deadlines—90 days for adults and 180 days for juveniles being tried as adults—have been suspended since Melton’s first statewide judicial emergency order in March 2020 limiting courts operations to only essential functions. Subsequent orders have brought some deadlines for litigants as well as grand juries and trial juries.
