The Daily Report examined judicial nominations by three Georgia governors from March 30, 2011, to Feb. 22, 2021.
Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal and his successor, Gov. Brian Kemp, appointed 157 people to Georgia’s state, superior and appellate courts during that time. At least 123 are white. The ethnicity of one appointee—former Crawford County Magistrate Judge Richard Spencer, whom Deal appointed in 2013—was not disclosed in the data from the Administrative Office of the Courts.
