A federal magistrate judge Thursday ruled that a Georgia lawyer who took part in a mob invasion of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 was too much of a risk to the community to be released on bail pending the outcome of criminal charges he faces from the event.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Charles Weigle in Macon acknowledged the arguments by McCall Calhoun’s federal defender that Calhoun had strong ties to the community and that he had lived a safe life until about six months ago.
