Frank Strickland of Taylor English Duma is arguably one of the lawyer-architects of the modern Georgia Republican Party. In the 1960s, he helped the first Republican to run for governor in nearly 100 years win the popular vote, only to lose when the race was decided by the Georgia Legislature. He also helped Republicans gain the right for a primary election, and he and his partner, the late Anne Lewis at Strickland Brockington Lewis, won a huge victory at the U.S. Supreme Court, tearing down a Democratic-leaning redistricting map.

As president of the Atlanta Bar Association in 1985, Strickland organized the representation for 1,100 Cuban refugees at the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary. In 2003, President George W. Bush appointed him chair of the Legal Services Corp.
