Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has officially begun the appeal of a federal judge’s order blocking the state’s law banning abortion.

Attorney General Chris Carr, Solicitor General Andrew Pinson and their outside counsel at Consovoy McCarthy in Washington filed a notice of appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit Tuesday. They will be seeking to overturn a July 13 order from District Judge Steve Jones of the Northern District of Georgia granting summary judgment to SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective and other groups challenging the law passed by the Georgia General Assembly and signed by the governor last year.
