Clients of Rogers & Hardin, a 31-lawyer Atlanta firm, had a lot riding on its appellate practice in 2017.
The firm represented Murphy Oil USA in a case concerning the settlement of claims from the Deepwater Horizon oil disaster. At issue was a $58.5 million award granted to Murphy Oil, which BP said should have been excluded from the settlement. One month after oral arguments at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the court upheld the award for Murphy Oil. In another Deepwater case, the firm won a ruling from the Fifth Circuit for a home improvement company that led to a $4.3 million award.
