It took 27 years for police to test the rape kits. But a jury took just two hours Friday following a weeklong trial to convict a man of two rapes that took place in 1986.

The attacks occurred before DNA testing, before the internet. Ronald Reagan was president. News reports at the time said one of the women was in her shower getting ready for work when she was attacked by a stranger with a knife. Another was at her own door when the man jumped her. Both were raped. One was severely beaten. Both women were in their 20s and living alone in apartment complexes on Franklin Road in suburban Cobb County. The news spread fear around the community.
