North Miami Beach Mayor George Vallejo reached a plea deal and resigned from office for violating campaign finance law in the 2015 election when he ran unopposed.

Vallejo pleaded guilty Tuesday before Miami-Dade County Court Judge Sam Slom to two misdemeanor counts of violating campaign finance laws. The state attorney’s office charged he routed $5,000 in campaign donations from a political action committee back to himself and his wife, Sandra Shinego, and used the money for personal expenses.
