In August 2013, Gov. Rick Scott suspended Miami Lakes Mayor Michael Pizzi, a fellow Republican, after the federal prosecutors charged him with accepting $6,750 in bribes from federal agents posing as businessmen seeking lucrative grants. In August 2014, Pizzi was acquitted of all charges, but Scott refused to lift the suspension.
