Kim Rothstein (Melanie Bell)
A former Davie boxing promoter was sentenced today to 10 months in federal prison for trying to help Kim Rothstein sell hidden jewelry bought with money from her husband Scott Rothstein’s Ponzi scheme.
Eddy Marin was sentenced on his guilty plea by U.S. District Judge Kenneth Marra in West Palm Beach.
Marin was indicted along with jeweler Patrick Daoud for helping Kim Rothstein sell $1 million in jewelry, watches and other items, including a 12.08-carat yellow diamond ring, that she withheld when federal agents came to collect profits from her husband’s $1.2 billion fraud.
Marin changed his plea to obstruction of justice in October. He admitted helping sell some of the jewelry and lying about it when he testified under oath in civil proceedings.
Kim Rothstein is serving an 18-month sentence. Scott Rothstein is serving a 50-year prison sentence for masterminding his settlement financing fraud from his opulent Fort Lauderdale law office at Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler.
Daoud, who admitted paying $175,000 for the ring, is scheduled to be sentenced April 11.
