Callers who reached Ryder Moving and Storage didn’t get what they were seeking.
The attorney general’s office has filed a lawsuit against Storage & Moving Services Inc., which did business under the Ryder name but wasn’t affiliated with the publicly traded Ryder System Inc. logistics company.
The suit filed last week alleged Ryder Moving was a Hollywood-based impostor that defrauded more than 100 customers by picking up customers’ belongings but never delivering them, collecting money for services never provided and refusing to pay for damage to customers’ property, among other things.
Storage & Moving owners Jose Pino, Jodi Socher and Joshua Socher were named last week in the Broward Circuit Court lawsuit based on an investigation by the attorney general’s consumer protection division.
“These customers entrusted their clothing, furniture and family heirlooms to this company, only to have them broken and in many cases lost,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said. “We will continue to shut down intrastate moving companies within the state of Florida that prey on our consumers.”
The lawsuit seeks a permanent injunction against the defendants, which would ban them from the moving business in Florida.
