He still didn’t know what he was going to do when he got on the elevator the day he was supposed to start at what is now the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building. As he was riding up, the car stopped on the sixth floor. He stepped out to let other people out, and he just kept going straight to the state attorney’s office when the door closed behind him.
