School districts could start the school year earlier if needed for students to complete all their coursework and tests by five days before Christmas under a bill filed in the House on Tuesday.
The measure (HB 657), sponsored by Representative Larry Metz, R-Yalaha, says school districts can start the year as early as necessary to reach that goal. Currently, public schools in Florida can’t begin the school year until 14 days before Labor Day.
