The final day of a Pinecrest orchid grower’s trial against chemical maker DuPont for destroying her crop hit a major snag Wednesday when the judge took issue with an analogy used by her lawyer during closing arguments on punitive damages.

During a one-hour monologue that started with profuse apologies to jurors for the monthlong trial and ended with shouting accusations, Robert Ratiner compared DuPont’s Benlate fungicide to a street mugger breaking someone’s leg and getting caught.
