As the Trump administration takes office in January, attorneys said that the U.S. stands at a pivotal moment in the fight against financial secrecy, financial crimes, and corruption. Experts from the FACT Coalition, Transparency International U.S., and the Foundation for Defense of Democracies unpacked the critical issues at stake in 2025 in a panel, unveiling the trends to watch.
Ian Gary, executive director of the FACT Coalition, opened the panel by mentioning that Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen in 2021 said that “there’s a good argument that, right now, the best place to hide and launder ill-gotten gains is the United States.”
