Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Assistant U.S. Attorney Johnathan D. Lott to fill the vacancy left in the Broward Circuit Court by Judge John Murphy III, who resigned on Aug. 1 after two decades on the state court bench.

“Judge Lott will serve the 17th Judicial Circuit with distinction and we welcome him aboard,” Chief Judge Jack Tuter said in a statement. “Judge Lott will take Judge Francis Viamontes division in the Family Court and begin his service on Jan. 1, 2025.”
