A U.S. District Judge in Miami issued an order allowing the case involving Latoya Ratlieff, who was shot in the face with a rubber bullet by a Fort Lauderdale police officer, to proceed to trial. The jury will determine whether the City of Fort Lauderdale is liable for failing to properly train its officers.

During a protest against police brutality following the killing of George Floyd and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement across the U.S., Ratlieff participated in a peaceful demonstration on May 31, 2020, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
