A New Jersey man faces federal prison Tuesday after stealing more than $43 million from various securities class action settlements to pay for private jets, expensive homes, luxury cars, yachts and a private island in the Bahamas.

To do this, Joseph Cammarata, the purported CEO of claims aggregator Alpha Plus Recovery, didn’t just fudge the numbers. He created fake clients, complete with false emails and made-up share purchases, and communicated with two co-conspirators via WhatsApp text messages to avoid detection.
