Most courts in South Florida will close Wednesday and Thursday due to Hurricane Ian, with some exceptions for online operations.

The U.S. District and Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida will close its Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach divisions, according to the release by Clerk of Court Joe Falzone.

The Miami-Dade Circuit Court might hold some remote hearings scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday to take place “in certain limited circumstances.”

“Please check with the presiding judge in your case for further information and to confirm cancellation,” Eunice Sigler, the director of the office of government liaison and public relations, said in a release. “First-appearance hearings will take place on a weekend/holiday schedule. Please see the Virtual Courtroom Directory – Bond Hearings Section, for further information related to first appearance hearings on Weekend/Holiday schedules.”

All normal court operations will be suspended at the Broward Circuit Court on Wednesday and Thursday with the exception of ”essential matters handled as if weekend schedule,” according to Chief Judge Jack Tuter.

The Palm Beach Circuit Court will cease operations Wednesday, including remote hearings. However, administrators have made no decision on whether the court will shut down  Thursday.
