A jury ordered an insurance company to pay $350,000 as restitution for its denial of a homeowner’s claim.

On March 19, 2020, plaintiff Elliot Stern discovered damage of his residence, a townhouse that was located at 20961 Boca Ridge Drive W., in the city of Boca Raton. Floor tiles had become tented: upwardly displaced in a configuration resembling a tent. Stern claimed that the condition was a result of moisture infiltration. He sought reimbursement of the cost of the floor’s repair, but his claim was denied by his insurer, Universal Property and Casualty Insurance Co. The insurer contended that the floor’s defective condition was a result of improper installation.
