A former NFL player was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison for fraudulently obtaining over $1.2 million through a Paycheck Protection Program loan under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, the Department of Justice announced Dec. 10.

Joshua J. Bellamy, 32, of St. Petersburg, Florida, pled guilty June 9 in the Southern District of Florida for conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Bellamy previously played as wide receiver for the New York Jets. He was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list in May 2020 due to a shoulder injury and later released in September 2020, according to the team.
