A jury rejected a man who claimed that he was denied sick-leave pay while on COVID-19 leave from his workplace.

On March 31, 2020, plaintiff Timothy O’Bryan, 58, a professional cleaner, did not perform his scheduled work duties. O’Bryan, an employee of Delray Beach-based Joe Taylor Restoration, contacted his supervisor, Glenda Galarza, and he indicated that he was experiencing a persistent cough that had begun during the prior evening. He suggested that he was suffering a cold. Given that the world had entered the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, O’Bryan was directed to skip the workday. He was later told that he was to remain away from the workplace for two weeks.
