A dispute over reproductive rights in Louisiana that reached the U.S. Supreme Court last term has opened a window to hourly rates at two major law firms, as veteran appellate advocates and trial lawyers seek attorney fees for their work successfully challenging a state law that would have shuttered all but one abortion clinic in the state.

Lawyers from O’Melveny & Myers, including special counsel Jeffrey Fisher, the veteran Supreme Court advocate, and appellate partner Anton Metlitsky, are seeking more than $1 million in legal fees, filings show. Morrison & Foerster said it should receive more than $75,000 in fees for its co-leading role in the litigation. Both firms were pro bono. In all, the lawyers who advocated for June Medical Services in the case, filed in 2014, have asked for nearly $9 million in fees.
